6 Things Homeowners MUST Know Before Installing Solar PV

“Why should I change?” “Are rooftop solar panels worth it?” “Am I qualified for them?” “Would they be suitable for my house?”
These are the common questions we ask ourselves. It’s typical for people to have certain questions before installing solar PV systems.

The term “solar panels” launches a range of different perspectives. Although many would understand the benefits of installing solar PV for homes, most would still be hesitant to install it due to a lack of knowledge about solar technology and solar panels.

Not to worry. Here are the 6 basic things you must know before installing solar PV on your home:

Step 1: Knowing Your Property Type Before Installing Solar PV

First and foremost, you need to know that apartments and condominiums are NOT eligible for solar panels. This is because you are required to own the roof where you intend to place the solar PV system. So, make sure you are staying in landed properties such as bungalows, semi-detached houses, or terrace houses.

Step 2: Monthly TNB Bill

Homeowners should know their average monthly TNB bills before installation. We all know that solar panels generate enough energy for your home, and they often collect excess energy. This excess energy can be sent back into the local grid, helping to lower your meter and save on your energy bills.
This may come as a surprise to some, but you should note that it is only worth installing solar PV if your TNB bills are above RM200. Anything lower than that is not very worth it unless the main purpose of installing solar PV is to improve our environment and save the Earth.

Step 3: Location

Why is location important? Because states such as Sabah and Sarawak do not come under TNB, NEM simply does not apply to these two states. Besides, Verdant Solar mainly covers the central region, such as Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Pahang; the northern region, including Penang, Perlis, Perak, and Kedah; and the southern region, including Johor.

Step 4: Your Rooftop Condition

Before the installing solar PV, you must consider the condition of your roof. Is my roof too old? Is there any damage? How much weight can my roof handle? What are the shape and angle of my roof?
You will find it difficult to calculate and comprehend every detail about your rooftop condition and solar panels.

To make things easier, all you need is a quick and simple consultation with Verdant Solar. Our solution consultant will provide their services by doing a thorough check on your roof. We will use a drone camera to look over and inspect your roof in order to obtain detailed information. We will then provide consultation according to the condition, and it is all free of charge.

Step 5: How Installing Solar PV Can Help You Save on Your Electricity Bills

Ever heard of “Net Energy Metering (NEM)”? If not, it’s time you did.
NEM is one of the options for you to generate electricity from your own solar PV system and offset or reduce your electricity bills. NEM 3.0 is a programme presented by the government to encourage users to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Installing solar PV means electricity generated by the sun. The government launched the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme in 2016 in order to increase the use of solar power. After a positive response, NEM 2.0 was introduced in 2019. The programme allowed excess solar power to flow back into the grid on a “one-on-one” offset basis. That’s where its popularity picked up, as excess power could be sold back to TNB.

Not long after, NEM 3.0 was introduced and will be available from 2021 to 2023. To further increase solar power usage, the government has allocated a total quota of up to 500 MW.

NEM 3.0 will be divided into three different sectors:

NEM Rakyat (households)
NEM NOVA (industrial)
NEM GoMEn (government ministries and entities)

Step 6: How Do You Choose the Right Company for Your Installation?

The main factors you have to consider are a company’s Reputation, Service, and Efficiency. The company you choose should also have positive customer feedback. Fortunately for you, Verdant Solar has all the boxes checked.

Verdant Solar has the outstanding report for the most 5-star Google reviews, which include reputation, the guarantee to deliver world-class service, and the promise to provide zero defects in solar installation. If, in any case, we violate these values, Verdant Solar will fix the defects at no cost, and we also promise to provide services and get everything done within 30 days or we will pay your TNB bill. Here at Verdant Solar, we only give our customers the best.
