How to Choose a Solar Installer in Malaysia

A homeowner-focused checklist for choosing the team that will design, install and support your rooftop solar system.

Quick links

Choosing solar is not only about choosing panels. You are also choosing the people who survey your home, design the system, manage the process, complete the installation and support it afterwards. Start with basic verification, then compare how clearly each installer explains the work.

Verify the basics first

For relevant residential solar work, SEDA directs homeowners to choose a registered PV service provider. Start with the official directory, then check that the company name and details on the proposal match the provider you are speaking to.

Experience with residential roofs also matters because home installations involve different layouts, access conditions and electrical setups. Verdant Solar has completed 10,500 SEDA-approved residential installations and has held the Malaysia Book of Records title for the most solar PV home installations in a year for three consecutive years.

Registration and experience are starting points, not the complete decision. You still need to assess the proposed system, contract and support terms for your own home.

Look for a site-specific proposal

A credible installer asks enough questions to understand your roof, electricity use and electrical setup. The resulting proposal should not feel interchangeable with one sent to any other household. It should identify the equipment, capacity, layout assumptions, expected output and scope of work.

Compare the support around the system

The installation is only the beginning of the relationship. Ask who handles applications, commissioning, handover, monitoring access, warranty claims and a fault report. You should know whether you call the installer, a manufacturer, or both—and what response process applies.

AreaWhat to ask an installer
DesignWhat system is proposed and why is it suitable for my roof and use?
ScopeWhat is included, excluded and subject to a site variation?
ApprovalsWhich steps do you manage, and what documents do I need to provide?
SupportWho handles monitoring, faults, warranties and optional maintenance?

Read the documents as carefully as the reviews

Reviews can reveal a pattern in customer experience, but they do not replace a clear proposal or contract. Verdant Solar has more than 700 Google Reviews, giving homeowners a broad set of customer experiences to examine. Look for recurring comments about communication, installation quality and after-sales support rather than relying on the star rating alone.

Then read the equipment list, exclusions, payment terms and warranty conditions. Be wary of a provider who is easy to talk to but reluctant to state the scope precisely. Important answers should be written down before you sign.

Ask about timing without treating estimates as guarantees

A good installer can give you an indicative sequence and identify the steps they control. Some parts of a grid-connected project depend on external approval or utility activity. Ask which dates are estimates, what could affect them and when you will be updated.

The bottom line

Choose the installer that makes the project easiest to understand and easiest to manage after installation. A clear proposal, verified status and written support process are stronger signals than a polished sales pitch alone.
