For many Malaysian homeowners, solar has been on the “maybe one day” list for years. It makes sense: generate electricity from sunlight, reduce your monthly bill, and make your home more energy-efficient.
Now that SuRIA Home has been introduced, 2026 could be the right time to start. SuRIA Home, short for Sustainable Rebate and Incentive Assistance Home, is a new government rebate initiative introduced by PETRA to encourage more residential rooftop solar adoption. Under this programme, eligible homeowners who install solar under the Solar ATAP programme can receive RM600 per 1kWac installed, up to a maximum rebate of RM3,000.
For anyone already considering a solar system in Malaysia, this incentive could help reduce the starting cost of going solar.
At Verdant Solar, we believe switching to solar should be simple, practical, and guided by the right information. Here’s what homeowners need to know.
What Is The SuRIA Home Rebate?
SuRIA Home is designed to make rooftop solar more accessible for Malaysian households. It does not cover the full cost of installation, but it gives eligible homeowners financial support when they invest in a home solar power system.
The government has allocated RM150 million for the programme, which is expected to benefit around 45,000 to 50,000 homes and support about 250MW of residential solar capacity nationwide.
For homeowners, the benefit is clear. Solar panels allow your home to generate electricity during the day, reducing the amount of power you need from the grid. Over time, this may help lower your electricity bills, especially if your household uses more energy during daylight hours.
How Much Rebate Can You Get?
The rebate amount depends on the size of your eligible solar installation:
- 1kWac solar system
Estimated rebate: RM600
- 2kWac solar system
Estimated rebate: RM1,200
- 3kWac solar system
Estimated rebate: RM1,800
- 4kWac solar system
Estimated rebate: RM2,400
- 5kWac and above
Estimated rebate: RM3,000 maximum
The rebate is capped at RM3,000. So, even if your home requires a larger system, the maximum rebate you can receive is still RM3,000.
This can make solar power installations more attractive, but your system size should not be based on the rebate alone. It should depend on your electricity usage, roof space, roof direction, shading, and long-term savings goals.
Who Can Apply?
SuRIA Home is meant for Malaysian citizens who are individual domestic low-voltage TNB customers. The installation must be carried out under the Solar ATAP programme and successfully commissioned with TNB.
The rebate is limited to one claim per eligible individual. Homeowners who have already received previous solar assistance or rebates may not be eligible.
This means not every solar PV system will automatically qualify. The project needs to follow the correct application, approval, installation, and commissioning process. Final approval remains subject to the requirements set by the relevant authorities.
Why You Should Plan Early
SuRIA Home starts on 1 June 2026 and runs until 31 December 2026, or until the 250MW quota is fully taken up, whichever comes first. Since the programme works on a first-come, first-served basis, timing matters.
Installing a solar system in Malaysia is not instant. Before panels are installed on your roof, your solar provider needs to review your TNB bill, assess your roof, design the right system, prepare the necessary documents, complete installation, and support the commissioning process.
Starting early gives you more time to make a proper decision and avoid rushing if the quota fills up quickly.
How Verdant Solar Can Help
At Verdant Solar, we help homeowners understand whether solar is suitable before they commit.
Our team reviews your electricity usage, assesses your roof condition, and recommends a home solar power system tailored to your property, lifestyle, and savings goals.
We also guide homeowners through system design, quotation, installation, and related documentation. For those interested in SuRIA Home, this support is especially useful because the rebate is tied to the proper application and commissioning process.
A good solar power installation is not just about putting panels on your roof. It is about making sure the system is safe, reliable, and designed to perform well for years.
Ready To Explore Solar?
The SuRIA Home rebate gives Malaysian homeowners another reason to consider solar in 2026. While RM3,000 may not cover the full cost, it can reduce the initial investment and improve the overall value of switching to solar.
